The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) held a ground-breaking ceremony for the construction of a 4-lane 961 lineal-meter bridge that would cross the Pasig River, connecting Lawton Avenue in Makati City to Sta. Monica Street in Pasig City on July 19, 2017.
When completed in March of 2020, the bridge is expected to cut the one-hour drive between Bonifactio Global City and the Ortigas Business District to a mere 12 minutes, greatly enhancing the accessibility between the two business districts.
The ground-breaking ceremony was led by DPWH Secretary Mark A. Villar who said that this was but the first of new infrastructure projects that will happen under the next five years under the “Golden Age of Infrastructure” of the current administration.
The project falls under the supervision of the DPWH Unified Project Management Office – headed by Undersecretary Emil K. Sadain, along with its contractor partners Persan Construction Inc., and Sino Road and Bridge Company Limited Inc.
The Sta Monica to Lawton Bridge is the first of 12 new bridges to be build crossing the Pasig River and Manggahan Floodway that have been earmarked as urgent by the current administration.
The other planned bridges are the: North and South Habor Bridge; 2nd Ayala Bridge (Carlos Palanca-San Marcelino); Beata-F.Y. Manalo Bridge (Pandacan-Sta. Ana); F. Blumentritt-Antipolo Bridge; Estrella-Pantaleon Bridge; Kabayani-Katipunan Bridge; Reposo-Guatemala Bridge; J.P. Rizal-Yale Bridge; G. Gabriel St.-Mercury Ave. Bridge; East Bank-West Bank Bridge 1, and; East Bank-West Bank Bridge 2.
Two of the twelve bridges will be constructed under a full grant from the People’s Republic of China.
