The Fort Bonifacio Development Corporation (FBDC) announced last June 21, 2017 that they will be constructing a dormitory for workers within the Bonifacio Global City (BGC).

FBDC has named the dormitory project “The Flats BGC” and is slated to be built across from St. Luke’s Medical Center along 5th Avenue. The Flats BGC is meant to service the projected 120,000 workers that will come to work in BGC by 2019.

Dormitories were identified by property developers as a growth area in 2016 and FBDC joins SM Investments Corporation and other real-estate firms in seeking to:

  • Provide traffic weary workers with halfway homes that will provide them with sufficient rest and recreation - in effect increasing their work productivity.
  • Help address the traffic congestion problem by reducing the amount of travelers on the road; in public transportation, or; in the MRT during rush hours.
  • Help reduce greenhouse gas emissions by reducing the number of vehicles on the road thereby helping the environment and helping the health of the general public as well.

The Flats at BGC will be a 16 story building with 375 fully furnished dorm units within that provides for 1,500 occupiable beds.

The dormitory will be managed by a building administration to guarantee safety and security and will be open to corporations who wish to make lease arrangements for their employees.

The Flats at BGC is also strategically located, allowing easy access to EDSA, Kalayaan Avenue, C-5 and 32nd avenue, effectively cutting the travel time of its future tenants to wherever they need to go.

FBDC calls the dormitory project an experiment given the trend of “co-living” – a “Modern urban lifestyle that puts a premium on openness, sharing and collaboration.
