Have you visited a hospital ward recently?  How did it sound?

Did you hear and understand the announcement at the bus or rail transit station?

Did you enjoy your conversation with the people you were having lunch with?

Designers can do more about building friendly, useful acoustic environment.

Planners, architects, designers and builders should not only build for the visual sense.  The design criteria should also include how sound behaves in the environments they design and we all use.  On the one end, bad acoustics is literally not healthy.   On the other end, good acoustics can lead to healthier, more peaceful, more productive and more creative communities.

Julian Treasure talks about why architects and designers in general should create structures and spaces using their ears.
